SM: What would your father have thought about tonight?

CH: He would have been so happy and so proud. Now, he wouldn’t have told any of us that he was proud because he wouldn’t have tried to take any credit. The credit belongs to the team, the coaches and the fans. But that section would have been so important to him. Nobody worked harder for 40 years to popularize the sport in this country. That supporter section is really organic. It’s not something the Crew created or MLS created. They’re fans of the sport and they’ve organized themselves. My brother and I were standing over there on the stage with the team we both said ‘boy, this is just like being at a World Cup game.’ It’s not quite as big, but it had that same feel.
