First place isn't good enough in LA.
A BIG F.Y.I. to the front office, Hunt Sports Group, and whoever else is responsible in keeping Sigi in Columbus for the next couple of years.
Learn the lessons of the Los Angeles Galaxy.
From Nick Green, Daily News Los Angeles:
"Crunch the numbers over the past five seasons and the Galaxy is dead last among MLS teams that played during the same period. Crunch those stats a little further and it's possible to pin point just where it all went wrong - Aug. 16, 2004.
That's the day former Galaxy GM Doug "The Hatchet" Hamilton, in the job fewer than eight months at the time, effectively lobotomized what was then the flagship franchise of MLS by firing coach Sigi Schmid. The infamous firing in a Manhattan Beach bagel shop occurred not because of results - at the time the Galaxy led MLS in points - but because he deemed the team not entertaining enough.
It's not exactly been a laugh a minute ever since. In the four years since Schmid was fired (including the current incomplete one) as the chart accompanying this article shows, the Galaxy have a cumulative 41-55-27 regular season record. Only expansion team Real Salt Lake has fared worse.
Look at the four years before the 2004 season and the Galaxy's record was 53-38-25, good for second behind only D.C.United in a combined MLS table among clubs that competed in all of those seasons. Those four years encompass almost the entire Schmid era (he was hired in April 1999).
It was an era of stability built around defense by someone with a keen soccer mind. "Sigi-ball" had its critics, but there is no denying the consistency that brought three trophies in four years including the 2002 MLS Cup."

In an effort to resemble a woman who has a good body but an ugly face, continually throwing herself at guys thinking she's a 10 -- The Galaxy has announced they are constructing a "Wall of Champions"
2008 Wall of Legends Honorees:
Doug Hamilton
President and General Manager (2002-06)
Under Hamilton's direction, the club reached unprecedented heights both on and off the field, highlighted by capturing their first "Domestic Double" in club history, by winning the 2005 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and MLS Cup championships. In each of Hamilton's four seasons, the club qualified for the MLS Cup Playoffs - the crown jewel among those appearances winning the MLS Cup twice (2002 and 2005). Hamilton, who joined the Galaxy in January 2002 after serving as the Miami Fusion's (MLS) Executive Vice President & General Manager, was a three-time MLS Executive of the Year recipient, an award which has since been named after him in his honor.
No matter how you dress them, the Galaxy are still the ignorant, 6 thinking-she's-a-10-girl at the bar.
