3/26/09: More Crap

Another ridicoulous self-indulging article on MLSnet. Can MLS please pick a different rival for TFC already?:

From Jack DePoe, Red Patch Boys President:
"Everyone in our club is in a state of euphoria over the match and we are going to take Crew Stadium over this weekend. When we chant 'This is our house' at the stadium, it will be true."

From Toronto's Mayor Miller. Apparently, yellow is "OMG, like so yucky":
Miller said he was unhappy after he lost last year's bet and was forced to present the Trillium Cup trophy to the Crew wearing a yellow Columbus jersey.

"It was embarrassing and appalling," Miller said in The Globe and Mail on Thursday. "I had to wear their ugly yellow shirt and take photos of the cup in the stadium that I helped build, that is the last time that is going to happen."

Ryan Key of U-Sector:
"Just being able to turn an away game into a de facto home game makes it all worth while. As supporters we want to see as much of the team as possible so if we take a 7-hour bus ride to do it -- so be it."

And:
One Toronto fan told MLSnet.com that a banner will be erected in the upper deck of Crew Stadium mimicking a popular milk advertisement that asks the question "Got Milk?"; the Toronto FC banner will be a question to Crew supporters "Got fans?".

You know it's one thing if you make it a "de-facto home game". But, how about we play the game first and see what happens. From all accounts from the ticket office the total for TFC is less then 2,000, could be anywhere from 1,500 to 2,000. The Nordecke will have around 2,000-2,500. Then we will have probably another 10,000-14,000 throughout the rest of the stadium if all goes well. How that spells out into a "de-facto" home game before the fact is something I can't really comprehend. I'm not a big fan of saying what is going to happen before it happens.

"Both teams won their opening games last weekend, with Columbus rallying for a 2-1 win away to the Houston Dynamo and Toronto hanging on for a 3-2 victory in Kansas City."

The author of the article, Peter Mallett, appears to be quite knowledgeable.

You're so right. You guys don't consider us rivals at all.

That's why you just posted 165 articles on us, including that scintillating "Toronto insults" one that you yourself said took two hours to compile (I didn't realize shoveling your own bullshit took that long, but I digress).

Obviously you'll spend far more time on your posts next week when the opponent is... whomever the hell it is.

Because you don't consider TFC as a rival. Clearly.

It was a forced rivalry. And, Chicago and DC fans are not quite as bad with the spamming and trying to piss us off 24/7.

I don't have to spend all day counteracting what their fans say because they are not pounding their chests saying "how great they are" 24/7.

Where did I write that? Instead of projecting your own biases against me as a TFC supporter, try actually reading the words I wrote.

I'm just pointing out the incredible hypocrisy of some of you. This happens with some Toronto fans too, so it's not like you're alone.

I've lurked on your BigSoccer boards, I've seen "Toronto FC" next to "Foe" quite a few times. I even saw some dude "Kyrptonite" post about TFC not being rivals at all (he equated us to New England) yet next to "Foe" he has Toronto FC listed.

As I said, this goes both ways, a lot of TFC supporters are in denial that there is a rivalry going on as well.

If both sides were as apathetic about this as they claim, there would hardly be this much banter going on.

But of course, HSH, you have don't perpetuate this either, do you?

Sincerely,

Syrup Chugger

Has Toronto ever won against Columbus?
