3/31/09: Toronto Papers Coming Down Harshly On TFC Fans

**"The Crowd Goes Wild" By Lance Hornby:

An entertaining excerpt from a Toronto fan, got to like this guy:
"Some, but not all, were drunken boobs who didn't know if they were in Baffin Island or Columbus, Ohio," a fan named Chris told Sun Media, not wanting his last name used.

"They were very disrespectful during the American anthem, they hid under a giant red flag and threw smoke bombs at the security guards on the sidelines ... one of my own friends was even chanting 'you have no health care' at their fans.

"I try and keep an open mind, but I also believe in respect. They are blue-collar people such as ourselves. There were some tough looking Columbus fans with bandanas covering their faces who were headed towards the TFC fans, so when you ask for trouble, you get trouble."

That last sentence is pretty amusing and probably has some truth to it.

**Simply Embarrassing By Gareth Wheeler

Excerpt:
They're idiots, all hopped up on liquid courage, choosing to damage, destroy and devalue the product. When it comes to knowledge of Major League Soccer, they're clueless. Why else would they choose to throw smoke bombs while on the side of their own net, smoking out goalkeeper Greg Sutton?

TFC supporters need to police themselves for the sake of their own reputation. The problem is, it doesn't seem like they will or can.

I think it was mainly the cops and the security plan. But, both sides have to work on their temperment's as well and not being so easily baited.

It's nice to see that they are being isolated in their (Toronto's) behavior. I've got no problem with the singing and supporting your teams, but when it comes to destroying parts of another teams stadium and, what appeared to me fromwhere I was sitting, throwing stuff at people trying to remove the flares, that's ridiculous. That's one thing that American soccer fans have yet to learn... Respect. The Nordecke is a bit more controlled, although (I know I sound like a prick) the f**K Toronto might be a little excessive.

I was in England just last week and I got to see a Premier League match. I personally love when it's just fans just chanting at each other. They are respectful of each other. The bull that Toronto pulled during our ceremony is disgraceful to their club.

It is good to see that even the Toronto press gets it. Brother Crewfighter, query me this: Do you not think it is tragic that our own security so over-reacted to this that they mistreated our own fans?
