3/31/09: Is that new car scent wearing off for TFC?

This railing sucks.

Articles and editorials are starting to trickle out across both the USA and Canada now from the aftermath of the game played on Saturday. It will be interesting to see if the supporter's groups in Toronto will respond to the pressure and start policing their own fans. From my point of view, it seems like most of the fans there that caused problems didn't even know who was on the field for their team, just there to cause trouble. What scares me is if the conduct of their fans will have negative impact on families attending Crew games later this season. If I was a middle aged father, I do not know if I could bring my family through the exits of the stadium where macing, tasering, and fans destroying stadium property could continue. I agree in the fact that the CPD was both underprepared and overzealous, but some real issues in Toronto need to be discussed.

Some articles:
Toronto FC needs to control its fans right now

Simply embarrassing:
TFC fans involved in Columbus ruckus not hooligans, just idiots hopped up on liquid courage
according to Toronto Sun.

(Crewfighter add in note to what Shady posted above: Of course our fans are not all angels as well. Both sides need to learn how to keep their cool and not be so easily baited. The best solution in my opinion is to hold the away team, no exceptions, in their seats for 30 minutes after the game.)

I posted the same articles below man. To be honest the main problem is security and the security plan. And, it takes two sides to tango. It's not just Toronto fans.

Let's move on to RSL. I didn't want to harp on it on my site. I gave alot of TFC fans props. Some of it's being overexaggerated thanks to the overreaction of security after underreacting.

I should have a preview up of the RSL game later tonight hopefully. Hopefully we can get a podcast up sometime as well drinking and two stick stuff kind of derailed that.

I completely agree with you. I think they need to work on a separate entrance/exit scheme for Away fans. It wouldn't be hard/time consuming and would make a lot of the trouble on the grounds a thing of the past.
