The Toronto Sun is even over it.
I found this interesting/"here we go again" as Bill Archer went on the Toronto podcast "It's Called Football" and talked for over 20 minutes starting at minute 36. The most interesting part was actually to hear Archer's voice finally as I never met, seen, or heard the guy before, same goes for most Nordecke fans. Overall, I found a few inconsistencies by the Toronto guys that Bill sort of cleared up like Crew fans deliberately going to the South End. Well, duh guys, it's the only exit. "Well, that's a failed stadium plan" said It's Called Football. So, you want to pay for the constructing of another exit? From what I saw in September Toronto doesn't have a home and away exit at two seperate sides of the stadium either. My point at CCS in avoiding each other that I earlier posted is there is a gate at the South End to the left and to the South End to the right. Have supporters of one side exit through the right side without entering the left side of the South End of the stands while the other exits to the left without entering the right side, no exceptions. Also Bill was a little inconsistent on Nordecke policy, we catch beer throwers and smoke bomb on the pitch throwers when we can and I don't think it was enforced as strongly as it would have been on Saturday if we were playing like the Rapids. And, although I don't agree with some things that Bill says about Canada and his overall outlook on Toronto, I found the stuff said at minute 57 about the September TFC trip ridicoulous. Seriously, when two sides argue something that they were not around, it makes me want to rip my hair out.
36th minute for the start of Bill Archer, 57 minute for rip your hair out moment:
Who told "It's Called Football" that the Crew fans insisted to leave in Toronto last September although security wanted them to stay? I was there(was Duane Rollins?) and that's way off (I don't pretend to know what happened to him or anything else I didn't see on Saturday, so why pretend to know what happened last September). Last September, I remember saying many times, "we should stay up here" as we knew of the plan beforehand. Security was telling us it's okay to leave now. So they marched us out into waiting TFC fans. They could have seen the guys flicking us all off and waiting for us while marching us out and said, "ok back to the stands, but they didn't." Nobody insisted to leave and even if they did, it's simple for security, just say "tough shit."
But, the one dude kept chanting in a monotone voice that "the Crew fans asked to leave. The Crew fans asked to leave. The Crew fans asked to leave." Like he was making some point. If I'm arrested by a cop for a DUI and I ask to leave, did the cop f*ck up by allowing me to leave?
Then Ben Rycroft says that on Saturday "all the TFC fans wanted to stay in there seats and didn't want to go out to the waiting hooligans", oh okay so why were they not all there. And, if these guys did stay in their seats they have no idea what occurred afterwards except for that Duane guy who got caught in the mix up with police.
They were also a little disrespectful of Bill on "It's Called Football" calling him a "jackass" for writing his opinions, although I'm not surprised that he gets that with his relationship with TFC, and laughing like little schoolgirls the whole time off the mic when he talked. Bill also has a point on the banners(although I didn't mind them), the jesus middle finger and the 2 girls 1 cup, and the other 2 girls 1 cup banner with Crew fans being basically dunked into poo was a little more disrespectful then my response to their "Got Fans" banner with just a checkmark with "Free Healthcare." The most disrespectful was a maple leaf with the words TFC on it, crossed out. Wooo.
Bill has a point there, those banners were not for TFC, they were to excite and bait Crew fans. It's the responsibility of Crew fans not to get so torn up over them, but I'm sure some of the dumber ones were.
Anyways, a little misinformation on both sides. Bill doesn't sit in or around the section and doesn't know all the workings and probably didn't see all the after game stuff. Nevertheless, entertaining to see some of the big ego's on both sides go at it. Especially a week later, geez, although it was entertaining, get over it. I think those might be the only four people still concerned about Saturday's events. Worse then the Toronto Sun who has been over it for the last 2 or 3 days.
