Marrufo accepted jersey gift from Blanco after the game in response to Marrufo's generous call. (Full Mitchell Story Below Video). A generous call that left Gino Padula with a red card when he barely even touched Blanco. However, Blanco went down in agony on the ground for five minutes. Afterwards, the crowd of nearly 17,000 booed Blanco deservedly on every touch and in both corners threw cups at the disgraceful diver. I thought that the cups were unnecessary. But, looking at the pathetic dive on the replay of FSC I think if anyone deserved it ever, it was Blanco. If there is any matchfixing to go along with this between Marrufo and Blanco he deserves much more. Pathetic, talentless, no necked toolbag.
A second and third replay from FSC, not shown in Quick Kicks show that Padula just had his leg out to go for the ball. Blanco basically brushed up against his leg and then fell down as if a bullet hit him. Gino Padula had no infractions or tackles previously in the game and this play would have been generous to award a yellow card, without Blanco's masterful acting and screaming.
From Shawn Mitchell's, Soccer Officials Investigating Referee, Fire Star:
A top American soccer referee and one of Major League Soccer's biggest stars are being investigated by the United States Soccer Federation and the league for their conduct during the Crew's 2-2 tie with the Chicago Fire on Saturday.
Multiple witnesses reported seeing Fire star Cuauhtmoc Blanco broach the entrance to the referees' locker room following the game with a Fire jersey in his hand. He reportedly tossed the jersey into the room occupied by Jair Marrufo and his assistant referees.
Blanco was seen chatting with Marrufo before the game and witnesses said he later yelled at the referee and his crew outside the locker rooms at halftime.
Marrufo issued a controversial red card to Crew defender Gino Padula for a foul on Blanco in the second half. It was Padula's first foul of the game.
The Crew led 2-0 before Padula's ejection but allowed two goals late in the game while it played at a man disadvantage.
The Crew is appealing the automatic fine and one-game suspension of Padula, citing inconsistencies in Marrufo's calls and his alleged acceptance of Blanco's gift. It filed a report with MLS that cited the pregame, halftime and postgame incidents involving Marrufo and Blanco.
Players often give away their jerseys after games to fans and opposing players. but Ohio state referee administrator Ken Baldoesingh said "all referees know they are not supposed to accept gifts from anyone."
Marrufo's Mexican father was a former FIFA referee. Blanco is an icon in Mexico, where he starred for the national team and in the country's professional league.
"We are speaking to all the relevant parties, including the referee crew and both teams to review the situation," U.S. Soccer spokesman Neil Buethe said.
U.S. Soccer provides referees to MLS. Marrufo is considered one of the best after being named the 2008 MLS referee of the year. He was one of four referees hired full-time by the federation in 2007 in an effort to increase the quality of officiating in the U.S. and is a candidate to referee in the 2010 World Cup.
"We are aware of the issue and are working closely with U.S. Soccer and their review of the matter," MLS executive vice president Todd Durbin said in a statement e-mailed to The Dispatch.
A Fire spokesperson referred all questions concerning the matter to MLS and U.S. Soccer.
Bye bye 2010 World Cup for Marrufo. That is pleasing enough in my book. Also, would be huge to have Gino Padula back for TFC.

he couldn't possibly be throwing his jersey at them as an example of being soaked with beer, water, and who knows what else after taking corner kicks in front of you mouth-breathing wannabe hooligan trash, no, that couldn't possibly be the case at all
also if you're going to talk about pathetic divers, you might want to include some discussion of Schellotto, Moreno, Rodgers, and Gaven
Unless he spilled beer on himself in the locker room, I would say no. Members of your own SG said they saw him give the jersey he was wearing at the end of the game to a kid in the stands. He gave the ref a secondary jersey. Maybe he used it as a wipe rag after the ref gave him a tuggy in his little room.
More excuses from the last place team. You need to blame you coaching staff and your lack of hometown support for you shit season. Stop blaming Chicago, TFC and every other team, ref, and whatever else in the fucking world and fire your god damn manager. You always bitch about everyone else but you don't blame your shit club for the poor performances.
well our "shit club" hasn't had to many poor performances to talk about considering we won the cup as I recall
You won the cup last year. You haven't won a single game this year. Get rid of the Manager. TFC's Carver left and look at them now. 2 wins in a row and top of the east. Sometimes you need to shake it up a bit. You cannot blame other teams all the time. Also in the video from the Chicago game. The ref was behind the the play. All he saw was the tackle with studs showing. You now as well as I do ref's make mistakes all the time and its not like any of the Columbus or any other teams players havent taken a dive ever. Its a part (although its shitty) of the freaking game.
Our "shit club" must be doing something right if opposing supporters need to voice their opinions on our blogs
And yes it is very shitty when Blanco is on the ground every 5 minutes from a dive
Blanco is a cry baby who is on the ground every 5 seconds rolling around like he is about toblow up. He is the biggest pussy this country has seen and deserved everything that was thrown at him. Padula hadnt even committed a foul until when he went into the challenge with blanco. There is no way that was a red card especially right after moreno was on to goal and the caveman centerback took him out no where near the ball and no foul was given but padula challanged blanco, won the ball and was given a red..BULLSHIT WHAT FUCKING GARBAGE this was fixed and the referee ruined this game. No way this game ends 2-2 if columbus ghas 11 men throughout the match
"Hometown support"....? there were 17,000 people there. Thats more than most of the league that night except for the obvious Seattle and Toronto played the next day. I believe the last time i saw a Shitcago game there were sections without a single person in it.
when i watch the crew first enter the field, i notice everyone has their own quirks. for example:
marshall - he usually does a quick sprint and then jumps as high as he can.
frankie - usually runs over to north corner and shows love
danny and will - usually slap palms with eachother
moreno - dives across the field so he can get warmed up
Blanco and Marrufo are cheats. End of story. Why defend a player who calls his own fans garbage. Baffling. If one of our players called us that, he would get booed off the field and never suit up for us again. Period.
Talk about some joke fans.
I thought the trash throwing was uncalled for too until I watched the replay. Guess everyone else has better vision then me. For his bullshit acting and screaming Blanco deserves every piece of trash in the whole state of NJ heaved upon his ass.
Worthless trash.
He is who the real garbage is. Not the Chicago fans. Blanco.
I don't get what the big draw of him is anyways. He is slow and was worthless the whole game.
If Chicago plays Rolfe or Mapp instead they probably win on Saturday. Rolfe's play on the goal did more then Blanco did the whole game other than his acting and screaming.
Blanco sucks. I was saying the whole game this is horrible reffereeing.
Total crew meltdown
i loved watching revs fans eat themselves alive when they couldn't hack it last year
bitch and moan, it makes me giggle
I hope Blanco gets swine flu. There I said it.
