Alejandro Moreno scored the second goal for Venezuela in a second half 3 goal comeback against Ecuador last night. Venezuela would go on to win the game 3-1. Moreno has played in the last four games for his country, starting two including last night's contest, recently becoming the favored striker for Venezuela.
The win versus Ecuador, was dare we say, massive for Venezuela who came off a 4-0 beating at the hands of Brazil on Saturday, Moreno came on in the 60th minute in that contest. His goal on Wednesday will help soldify him as the starting choice for (3-6-1) Venezuela who with 10 points and 7 games left are still in the hunt for South Africa.
The standings shape up like this, Venezuela are currently 3 points back of the play-in 5th spot held by Uruguay and 6 points back of the automatic third and fourth spots held by Argentina and Chile respectively. 21 points are still up for grabs.
The total standings can be found here.
Next Up: Moreno's Venezuela has some time off before their next CONMEBOL match-up against Argentina in March.
Here is a highlight from last night including Moreno's goal(1:30), which is Venezuela's second:
My thoughts: Having Moreno playing in big games all the time against teams such as Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Ecuador, and etc. is a huge positive for when he is playing for us in the playoffs. I hope his success continues down South. Then Ale-je-andro Mo-re-no can be a global chant.
