Do you want the good news or the bad news?

The Vegas bid is kaputt for now, just like the Stardust. Martins photostream.

Noorzai's Vegas group has dropped their bid for a 2011 team in Las Vegas. My assumption is this just means their plans are not ready yet for that $500 million pipe dream. Overall, I'm not sure if this is good news or only means that they don't need a bid, because the Crew can be their bid.

But, my non-conspirist side wants me to believe that this means Noorzai's Vegas group won't be ready until 2012. Which means no matter what our owners intentions happen to be, there will be at least 3 more years of the Crew in Columbus. Hooray!

From Shawn Mitchell's blog:
The head of the investor group attempting to purchase a portion of the Crew has ended an effort to land a Major League Soccer expansion team for Las Vegas in 2011.

California businessman Mark Noorzai and his Vegas group did not submit a formal application for an expansion team to MLS by the 5 p.m. deadline today, nor did the group attempting to bring a second team to New York.

Atlanta, Miami, Montreal, Ottawa, Portland, St. Louis and Vancouver remain candidates for two new teams that will begin play in 2011.
