We are a easily excitable bunch aren't we? SBJ posts a story and all of the sudden EVERYONE PANICS! Of course they have a right to, it's not like investors ever buy shares in teams in different cities.
Here's my deal with this. What evidence do we have that there is any plan in place to move the team? The group is from Las Vegas. They are searching for an expansion team to move to Las Vegas. That's it. What evidence do we have that the team isn't moving? Well... statements from Mark McCullers and John Wagner both stating the Crew will stay. The original article states "The investors would not move the team." So here's my thought on all of this? Why all the panic? If they are all lying to us (even though at least on the part of McCullers, the only one I've dealt with personally, he's been nothing but forthright) then there's not much we can do is there? I'm going to be the dance band on the goddamned Titanic until the very last game at Columbus Crew Stadium (which IMO is a long time from now... like never.)
Here's the thing. I am of the opinion that this minority share purchase might not even happen, and if it does I'm looking at this as a positive. According to a source of mine this happens a lot, people inquire about purchasing shares of MLS teams (even the Crew), and this deal is far from even happening.
I'm always one for looking at the positives of situations, some (read: most) may consider that naive, but that's just how I'm wired. I know there are stories out there about other team's management telling their fans that nothing will happen and then the team ends up getting moved. I just can't bring myself to believe that this group would do that to us.
Anyway, I'm going to post more about this, including what I think we can do as fans next season, but this is all I have time for right now.
Oh, and I promise to use this graphic in my next post.

Any Browns fans out there? Yeah, you remember how fast a move can happen. You put your heart and soul into a team, only to have one reality thrust in your face - someone else owns the team, and will do what they want with it. It can happen here, too. Forget contracts, assurances, and fan support. Art Modell did. All sports fans have is today, and for Crew fans in 2008, that's pretty good. Enjoy it while we got it! Tomorrow you're outsourced, foreclosed, and your team moves away. But, today the Crew RULES!
I think the Browns situation and the Crew situation are apples and oranges. Cleveland wouldn't build Art a stadium, Crew already have one, Art stayed owner of the team, Crew are looking @ new investors... it's different.
